    montgomery is the capital of alabama, but the capital of the confederacy had three capitals over its existance. montgomery was the first, and remained the capital until may 29, 1861. th second capital was richmond, virginia from may 29, 1861-april 2, 1865. the last was danville, virginia, from april 3, 1865 until the confederacy surrended on april 9, 1865.
