    外週型苯重氮基鹽受體(peripheral-type benzodiazepine receptors,簡稱 PBRs),主要為由169個氨基酸所組成的跨越粒線體膜的蛋白質,參與粒線體膜的通透性,可以調節粒線體跨膜電位和電子傳遞鏈的呼吸功用。此受體與其配位體之化學結構如下:

    當外週型苯重氮基鹽受體與配位體結合後,能夠調節粒線體膜通透性轉變孔的開放呈度,進而調控粒線體膜內、外的細胞信號傳導以及類固醇的轉運,使得體內會產生出抗焦慮、抑鬱症、抗癲癇、抗發炎、抑制腫瘤以及濃度倚賴的細胞毒性等效應。
