Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (محمود احمدینژاد ) is the current President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. However, according to article 113 of Constitution of Islamic Republic of Iran, he has less total power than the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who is the commander in chief of the armed forces of Iran and has the final word in all aspects of foreign and domestic policies.
He was formerly the mayor of Tehran and prior to that a member of the Pasdaran (Iranian Revolutionary Guard). He has a Ph.D. in transportation engineering and planning from the Science and Technology University. Hewas politically active as a student during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis.
He is a mahdaviat (believer in the mahdi) and has spent $17 million to prepare the Jamkaran mosque for the appearance of the mahdi. He says he was surrounded by a divine light when he addressed the UNSC for the first time.
