KNO2 is a strong electrolyte

KNO2 >> K+ + NO2-

NO2- + H2O <> HNO2 + OH-

initial concentration

0.10 . . . . . . . . . . .0 . . . . .0

at equilibrium

0.10-x . . . . . . . . . . . x . . . . . x

For this equilibrium

K = Kw / Kb = 10^-14 / 4.3 10^-4 = (x)(x)/ 0.1-x =2.32 10^-11

x = 1.52 10^-6

pOH =5.82

pH=8.18

4.0 x 10^-4 = x^2 / 1.04-x solve for x by quadratic formula x = [H+] pH = - log x
