On my Mac OS X 10.4.9, how do I change what program opens a certain file extension by default?

I can't figure it out. When I check "always use this program" in the "Open With..." menu of a certain item, it only uses that program to open THAT SPECIFIC file, and not all the files with the same extension.

Control-Click the file you want open. Select "Get Info" from the pop-up menu.

Toward the bottom of the window that opens, will be an

"Open With" drop down box. Select the program you want to use to open this file. You have the option to make this the default for all files.

    Hope this helps.

Control click on the folder, file, whatever. Get Info, in the pop-up window you will see 'Open with' click on it's triangle, on the drop down menu choose which app you want to open it with and click on the Change All... button.

I'm not sure what your asking, but if you want the program to open when you start up your comp. On the dock, click and hold the icon, then a little screen will show up, and then you highlight "open at start" that should do it... but then again, im not sure what youre asking
