what happens when women have periods and their hymens arent broken? does blood build up until its broken?

The unbroken hymen is normally perforated, and the blood passes through the opening. Occasionally the hymen is "imperforate" (has no opening ... this is rare), which requires a medical procedure to create an opening.

No, of course not. There is a small opening, about half an inch across, to let it out.
