Get in. Check emails (this is almost always the main way people in a software office communicate with each other throughout the day). Then get to work on whatever assignments are at hand. For developers, this is mostly fixing the defects found by QA (the Quality Assurance department, who develops and executes plans to find software bugs so that they're caught and fixed before the software finally goes out), or putting in new enhancements. Very rarely are they working on building something from scratch. There's usually an inter-office program used to report and keep track of found software bugs. Reqested enhancements are sometimes listed in functional specifications document. There might be a meeting at some point during the day, but they're much more common for managers.

Of course there's the occasional water cooler talk, the getting of a cup of coffee from the kitchen, bathroom breaks, sharing Dilbert cartoons, and that kind of stuff, but that goes with just about any office job.

Mainly sit at a screen all day with intermittant breaks to visit the snack or soda machine and annoying breaks to talk with one's supervisor.
