Out of curiosity, does it really exist? What is it supposed to sound like?

    Mayor Daley, perfect Bridgeport accent

Bill Murray, perfect north side accent

Bernie Mac, perfect south side accent

George Wendt (norm on cheers) another type of south side accent

It's a very flat "a" (as flat as our land) and we just don't have time to say all those sylables.

Yes, it exists, and I still have a bit of it left, and I am proud of it.

When you say the word "roof", a Chicagoan will say it like "ruff". They say "pop" instead of soda.

It is really hard to describe, but if you ever saw the parody on SNL with men that love Da Bears, they do an extreme version of the accent. It is the accent to the max there.

I don't know I'm from Chicago and when i travel people always ask if from Chicago they say they could hear the accent. I asked what was was it and the said Chicago people speak rudely.

Source(s): This happend to me a couple of times.

Watch the Blues Brothers....when Dan Ackroyd speaks, that's a textbook Chicago accent.

however, I'm from Chi town and I'm told I sound like I'm from LA.

    Hmmm.....

Yes, but actually there are several accents. And the comment about Akroyd was quite correct.

yes. have you ever seen the "ditka" skit on SNL ? thats it.i kid you not.

the more refined north shore accent sounds more east coast.
