    there are 65 teams in the tournament and in order to narrow it to 64, the 2 "worst" teams play each other for entry in the field of 64. that is the "play-in-team"

    as a rule of thumb, the lower the number, the better the team, but some teams with high numbers match up better vs. the team they are playing
