They say it's Alaskan Flounder but i don't think the Flounders are even caught in Alaska They do have Halibut though. As for White Fish they are caught in deep cold fresh water lakes. Here in Michigan we have a great supply of white Fish in the Great Lakes.(Superior being the best) but lake Michigan,Huron, and Erie all have good amounts of White Fish.I've caught them from shore in the St Clair river, off piers in lake Michigan and off White Fish Point in lake Superior(where the Edmond Fitzgerald sank).

White fish is a type of fresh water fish that prefers colder water temperatures in deeper lakes or streams of at least 3 feet of depth. They come from 3 genus (coregonus, prosopium, and stenodus) in the family of salmonidae. They range in size from the 6 inch long pygmy whitefish to the 49 inch 55 pound sheefish. White fish can be caught in deeper lakes and streams from Utah north all the way to the arctic.

Whitefish is a name for a bigger group of fish that include haddock, flounder, whiting, and hake. You don't really know exactly what you're getting each time you order. The deal is that the fish has a delicate flavor, and once it's frozen, it loses most of it. The flavor you taste on LJS's fish is from the breading they use. If you compare their fish to fresh caught whitefish of any species, you will never eat at LJS again. The difference is immense.

It's like the chicken nuggets -- "Parts is parts." It's "white fish" meaning it's some kind of fish which turns white when it's cooked. By not identifying it specifically, they're free to switch species when one kind gets more expensive.

Source(s): I used to go to an Italian restaurant where their "Branzino" fish varied according to the season.

You people are all wrong. The white fish they refer to is CONEY ISLAND WHITEFISH or THE MANHATTAN EEL! What they are is a USED CONDOM FLOATING IN THE WATERS SURROUNDING NEW YORK CITY! Think of that the next time you bite into your fish burger! I could guarantee some of you out there are puking right about now!
