    first of all convert the temp. to celsius. using the first equ, rewrite it to find C.

    F = (9/5)C + 32

    F - 32 = (9/5)C

    (F - 32) * 5/9 = C

    (98.6 - 32) *5/9 = C

    C= 37

    once you have the temp in celsius using the second equ it can be converted to kelvin.

    K = C + 273

    K = 37 + 273

    K = 310

    don't forget to add the units

    F = 9/5C+32

    F-32 = 9/5C

    5(F-32) = 9C

    5(F-32)/9 = C

    5(98.6-32) = 37

    K = 37 + 273

    K = 310

    -40°F = -40°C = 233.15 K
