Nabokovs finest?

Ok Lolita, Pale Fire obvious. Is some of his work a little over ripe though? too self serving? take the short stories, amazing of course, but did anyone else struggle with the weight of them. Conclusion, he was a literary genius, but.. Whats your but?

Some writers are just better at novels and other are better at short stories, just as some are better at fiction, some at non-fiction, and some at poetry. Nabokov was better as a novelist than as a writer of short stories. The fact that his short stories aren't as good as his novels doesn't take anything away from his novels.
