Suicide...=(?

Please help me people! My cousin, (he's 11) and he's not the most popular kid in Middle School, and I am 14. Him, Me and his mom were talking about trust, and his mom asked me "Would you trust me enough to tell me if you had suicidal thoughts?"

I said Yes. (this was hypothetical) then my 11 year old cousin says out of the blue..

"I HAVE HAD SUICIDAL THOUGHTS"

and me and his mom froze. I thought he was kidding or messing with us, cuz that is how he is and that's his personality, a joker.

Me and him are close being that there is a 3 year difference, and im a girl and he is a guy and hes not popular, but im more "socially involved" to say the least.

So when I tried talking to him about it, he'd like smile a tiny bit, and i thought he was joking and then he would just walk away. He did this whenever i tried talking to him about it. and his mom got sad cuz he thought about suicide. and she thinks he's NOT lying..and who knows him better than his own mother?

plz help me!!!

    Your cousin wanted attention and he's playing it for all it's worth now that he's got it. It doesn't sound to me that he's on the verge of killing himself, but this may be a warning. Lots of kids who kill themselves have thought about it for a long time. I believe that when kids think this way, there is something going on underneath the surface that we aren't aware of. He probably should see a counselor to talk about things..

    Believe it or not statistics show that a growing number of 8-12 year olds are having suicidal tendencies due to new peer pressures. This is really alarming because they are so young and have yet to experience life. Bravo to you for voicing your concerns. You always take life seriously so to ignore this as a ploy to get attention may be a deadly mistake. I ran an after school program last year and i had 32 kids. 3 of my 8-10 year olds confided in me the same thoughts. Encouraging them and helping them to focus on a life purpose rather than the temporal social status of where they are today is crucial. So many kids today feel as if there is no reason for them when in all reality we all have a vital role to fill in this world. Your part may just be helping him to discover how truly important he is. Focus on his strengths and help him to grow in these areas this may be key in saving him. Also see if there is a local youth group you can both become a part of that will help navigate the course for your life's purpose.

    Tell your cousin how good of a person he is. Normally, people who have suicidal thoughts liked to be cheered up. Sometimes. Hang out with him. Make him feel like a human being. And the thoughts may go away.

    Well you give him a teengae talk. Do whatever can make him laugh or something that keeps him busy. I have wanted to commit suicide. My friends helped me alot and without them I wouldn't be here. Convince him. Say forgive, love, and be you. People will except you for who you are. Let the good times role. Don't think about the past unless there of happy memories. Not something you want to let go. Something in his mind or heart is bugging him. Mabe he only hangs around with certain people. People have there own gangs or groups. When people are depressed they have those feelings. If he dresses in black that may be signs to. But just whach out for him and do what he enjoys. remember forgive, love, and be you.

    It is so important not to assume he is joking. His mom NEEDS to get him to a psychologist or psychiatrist - a professional who can help him deal with these feelings - and help his mom to know what to do as well. Good for you for taking this seriously. Please encourage his mother to take action right away. Maybe he isn't too serious, but you just cannot take that chance. I'll say a prayer for him!

    Oh, a pre-teen with suicidal thoughts! Thats so foreign to me. Never heard of that!

    Listen, he probably just needs attention. Kids often do the suicidal scare thing to get the spotlight on them for a while.

    That's sad if he has thoughts..At 11, you are suppose to just enjoy life...Is he depressed? Talk to a counselor at school or have his mother talk to someone to keep an eye on him kind of...

    Tell him to wait until he is an adult. His problems as an adult will make him laugh at the problems of age 11.
