How does growth occur at the buds, down the twigs, and throughout the stem?

    Photosynthesis. The sun shines on the plants and that makes the plants draw minerals such as nitrogen out of the soil and water and it just keeps going. If left to nature the plants would die, lay there and rot thusly replenishing the soil and the seeds from the flowers would sow theirselves and start all over again. Only God could devise somerthing like this.
