What makes people feel the need to use apostrophes so randomly?

Just wondering why it is that people add apostrophes randomly in any and all plural words. For instance...

"lot's of word's on a page"

"she has like's and dislike's"

"all his toy's are here"

Apostrophes are almost never necessary, except when showing ownership of something. Is there some other rule that I don't know? Why do people do it so often? I seriously am trying to understand the rationale.

It's due to the lack of understanding punctuation rules (which, I too am guilty of)

You use apostrophes for contractions and showing noun ownership.

It took me a while to learn the rules and I'm still having problems with when and where to place commas.

Oh, COMMAS are the bane of my writing existence! So, bear with my punctuation ignorance.

Apparently, they didn't pay attention in English class.
