A stye (also spelled sty) or hordeolum is an inflammation of the sebaceous glands at the base of the eyelashes.

Most styes will drain on their own though this may be accelerated with a hot or warm compress. Styes typically resolve within 1 week with treatment. A stye's spread or expansion can also be fought with the use of antibiotic ointment akin to Neosporin (e.g. Erythromycin Ophthalmic Ointment).

Answering this as if it were a sty or stye. Don't recall that spelling before, and don't find it in Websters. A stye is an Inflamed swelling on eyelid? Does one of your eyes turn pink and have a swollen area that is reddened and very tender? If I'm correct you might be able to get a remedy and a fact sheet from a pharmacist. In any case, I was always told it was very contagious and to refrain from touching as it would spread.

Not sure if a physician is needed, but it's always better if you can afford it. Why don't you google it or at least call you pharmacist. I believe the last time one of my kids had it we used a special ocular wash solution and then added a different special antibiotic special for the ocular region that made the eye a little gooey for a while, but they recovered nicely. It's been a very long time, so I'm sure there are newer and better treatments available out there. You can always call the medical school library and ask.

Good luck. Hands off it, keep it clean and get professional guidance.
