    the approximate population was estimated at 500,000 the information at that time was not very accurate because no census was taken like they do now.

    The first census of the United States was in 1790. At that time the population of the 13 states that made up the USA was 3,893,874. I am still looking for an estimated population for 1776. Note that shortly after the American Revolution there was a relatively large exodus of Loyalists (those loyal to the Crown) who departed the USA for British colonies in the West Indies and what is now Canada.

    I actually believe it was somewhere around 3 million to 13 million, though I believe it to be very close to the first number.
