1. 4 aces and 26 - 2 (aces) red cards...so 28 out of 52

28/52= 7/13 answer b

2. prob of picking 2 green...

5 out of 20 or 1/4 each time, so 1/16...now you want not both, so that would be 15/16 but that isn't a choice so...umm....are there only 20 marbles in this bag? me be confused and it is late...let me continue

3. 240 miles/ 20 miles = 12 so 12 inches d

4. 16/4d +2 = 8/3

ok...is this 16/ (4d+2)?

so cross multiply...

16(3) = (4d+2)8

48 = 32d + 16

32 = 32d

1= d

or you can say that to get from 8 to 16 you multplied by 2, so to get from 3 to what number you multiply by 2? that would be 6 so 4d+2 = 6 and d=1

now...that wasn't an answer choice so maybe that is not the intended proportion. hmmm....let me think some more...

i think it is time for me to go to sleep...i can't even get these right!!! unless i misread your questions...as there are no choices for some of my answers!

1) There are 26 red cards (13 hearts, 13 diamonds). There are four aces, two of which are red and have therefore already been counted. So there are 28 cards that are ace or red. 28/52 = 7/13.

b) 7/13

2) The probability of picking a green marble is 5/(6+9+5) = 5/20 = 1/4. So the probability of picking a green marble twice is 1/16. NOT picking the green marble twice, then, is 1 - 1/16, which is 15/16. Unless I'm doing something wrong, none of those answers is correct.

3) Set up a proportion:

1 in/20 mi = x / 240 mi

Solve for x by multiplying by 240 on both sides

x = 12 in

d) 12 inches

4) 16/4d+2 = 8/3

4/d + 2 = 8/3

4/d = 2/3

4*3 = 2*d

d = 6, which isn't an answer.

If you meant 16/(4d+2) = 8/3:

16*3 = 8(4d+2)

2*3 = 4d+2

4 = 4d

d = 1, which also isn't a choice.

for the 1st question, there are 52 cards altogether... 4 ace and 26 red cards, including the 2 ace cards... so 26 red cards plus 2 of the black ace cards gives u 28 cards... so probability is 28/52 which also gives u answer b...

for 2nd question,

probability that you will pick 2 green marbles is 5/20 times 5/20 which gives you 1/16... so prob that you will not pick 2 green ones is 1 minus 1/16 which is 15/16, but i dun seem to get any of the options... haha
