I took it for 7 years and ALWAYS took it in the morning.

Since it is a SSRI, it tends to make the brain a little more active than normal, so taking at night may have you laying there thinking about things for a long time, and not getting to sleep quick enough (or maybe not at all).

Remember, it is an mood enhancer - but not a stimulent.

I guess the best answer to your question has to do with when you started taking it. If your doctor started you by taking it before bed, then continue that way -- forever. But, if he started you in the morning, DO NOT try to switch to night - it will screw you up (I tried it).

Just an added bit of advice, next time you see you doctor, ask him about lexapro - I got off prozac and now take that - I think it is about 1000 better, and prozac effected my memory, and sex drive something awful - just check into it. I have no side effects now with lexapro.

According to Lilly, the pharmaceutical company, it is best to take in the morning. If you are taking it twice per day, it should be taken in the morning and at noon. If you want more information about Prozac, check the Lilly pharmaceutical website at http://pi.lilly.com/us/prozac.pdf. Most if it is very technical, but if you skim through the material, there is a lot of information that is understandable by non-medical people. Also, you can get a printout from your pharmacy that explains your medications in easy to understand jargon. Good luck.

either one is fine. if the medicine makes you sleepy, most doctors recommend that you take it before bed time. but if you dont have any problems taking it during the day, then you should be fine. its all up to you.
