How can people be so Idealistic with International Relations when reality slaps them in the face?

People, especially Americans, are so idealistic when it comes to our relations and actions with foreign countries. I know people from other countries have a different view, that they are entitled to, but Americans have to wake up and realize idealism is for the 60's & 70's hippies. Hegemony, regional... show more People, especially Americans, are so idealistic when it comes to our relations and actions with foreign countries. I know people from other countries have a different view, that they are entitled to, but Americans have to wake up and realize idealism is for the 60's & 70's hippies. Hegemony, regional superiority, foreign intervention to protect our interests are a Necessity, not an evil (by default). Yes, too often those in charge abuse the Global relationships. However, this idea of some egalitarian, worldly peace, economic prosperity for everyone is ridiculous and unfounded. It will never exist as long as there is more than one country, one ethnic group, and one religion.
