Do other countries, who have students perform better on international tests than the US, have..?
free public education? Or is that just the US?

almost every nation has free public education, for an industrialized nation the USA scores remarkably low, lagging behind the international standard.

I would say that it is just the US. There are plenty of talented young people taking advantage of education even if they have to pay for it themselves with student loans. When a student has to invest in themselves they will do better because its more important to them. If someone comes out of high school and knows very little they can compete with the illegals for the lower jobs. If any young person wants to attend college they can and thats all we owe them. If they want to be stupid then they certainly can do that too. We have very talented legal immigrants coming into the US particularly from Asia and they will have a future in the economy's growth. A stupid kid is a stupid kid and will not learn from more free education. Invest in yourself and bet your butt that you will cherish each class and strive for high marks. Cuz you have to pay for it!

Yes...short answer. Canada as an example.
More detailed though...its not about the cost of education - its about the quality of the educators and the curriculum. Teachers need to be paid more than they currently are in the US, and the educational system needs to adhere to stricter guidelines in their curriculum. In Canada, teachers now have to take exams every few years...to maintain their standings as teachers. Not a bad idea...as they are educators afterall.

Some international countries only have their top tier students take the test whereas the US has all their students take the test. You have to watch that when comparing test.

Our kids do well in the beginning, howevert, the longer they stay in our public education system the worse off they become. Kind of scary isnt it.

Here in the states people believe that children should be brainwashed to not think for themselves and to follow anti-logical beliefs.
When they get into school, it is no surprise that they cannot function with logic systems or to be able to think out the solution to a problem.
This is what religion has brought us.
