Is it right for people here at yahoo answers to offend you because you make mistakes in writing some words?

Two days ago i made a question, and i received some very good advice but there was someone who said me don't ever speak or write again because i had not written two words correctly. i noticed that the same treatment was given to two other people who had not typed their questions correctly.Iam not American,i am from Europe and i am trying to learn English .i think that we should try to offer each other here at the community good advice and moral support, and not offend one another with discouraging remarks. What do you think?

I had exactly the same once...and it's a bit over the limit, yes. Probably some people don't realize that there is more than United States or English language...so their answers or thinking's are also not very open minded. This is an open space, so if somebody is really offending, you can report an abuse and just take the answers best suits you, i guess you already did that. Many times we find the best help in English sites because there is much more offer than on other languages -I am Spanish-, so they didn't take that in consideration.

While writing correctly is very important, if you did not abuse this communication chain, insult someone for what they asked, or did not answer what they asked, I think little misunderstanding is and will about to happen, because this is only a one way street. It's not like you are talking on the phone. As long as you are honest in trying to help people's questions, I think you are okay (unless people are asking very racial or degrading questions, and you strongly oppose or disagree with them, but even then, we have free speech right in this country). Don't get discouraged, keep on answering with your good heart. You will run into some very sensitive people every now and then.

It saddens me when people attack others on answers. Sometimes the skills aren't there to phrase or spell correctly be it because of language barriers or disabilities. Yes, I know there is a "spell checker' but if you have a disability you'll not recognize the correction. Some word are spelled differently in other languages Heck Canadians spell word different that USA! Lighten up people, if you get the jest of the question answer it, if you are "offended" by phrasing or spelling DO NOT ANSWER!.I hope you continue to use and enjoy Yahoo Answer.

I agree. i could opt to assist those human beings, yet first they might desire to ask a coherent question. i anticipate a number of that's from people who talk a language different than english and are utilising application to translate their queries, and that i will forgive. different questions can in basic terms be defined as a failure to speak, and while it comes from a interior of reach "english speaker" the outcomes are in basic terms frightening and humiliating. All i'm somewhat searching for is a concern and a predicate, yet i think specifically circumstances it is only too lots to ask. some questions are so undesirable all you are able to truly do is mock their failure in hopes that the querent will reform and initiate making some damned sense. I commiserate.

Usually I can tell when someone is just learning english or trying to. You did very well here. It ticks me off when I see someone that just dosent try or makes absolutely no sense when they write. Use the spell check that will help and you could tell us that you are working on it. Good luck

I think this was a well worded question.

My philosophy is to overlook typos if the question is a good one, but tease those who use typos in combination with dumb questions.

And sometimes the writing is so bad the question is unintelligible. They're asking to be made fun of.

I'm with you. I answered a question where the guy had spelled the word right but used it in the wrong sentence structure. Everyone jumped on him about using spell check. So I quickly corrected them that he did use spell check, just chose the wrong word form for the sentence.

Think of this as a giant arena full of people. In any large group like that, there's going to be a few jerks who think it's funny to put other people down. Ignore them - it's the best way to get back at them.

I agree with you. Some people are just mean and they show it. Others are perfectionists and they just like having everything perfect. Including how your grammar is. Don't worry about those people because they aren't worth your time. Just keep your head held high and ignore those who try to bring you down. Good luck!

You are correct in finding those insulting comments offensive. This is a site that should be used to help others, not hurt them. Being a good American myself, I will take it upon myself to apologize for the ignorant comment made to you about your spelling. Rudeness is an ignorant mind trying to express itself!
