I'll break this into a couple parts. How hangovers work, and what to do to prevent them, and also how to cure a hangover if it's already too late.

Something to note is that for every 250 mililiters of alcohol you drink, your body expels (pisses out) 800-1000. Upto 4 times! Make sure you are NOT dehydrated before drinking. I've seen a lot of people recccomend greasy foods. This will NOT cure a hangover, but will PREVENT one if you drink on a full stomach. The food will soak the alcohol, but this will also result in not getting as intoxicated as quickly. If you just drink more to counteract this effect, the hangover will still be there tomorrow.

So you have a hangover? Ouch. Here's some pointers on fixing it. If you can eat, first of all, eat eggs. They have something called cysteine in them, which is what breaks down the hangover causing toxin acetaldehyde in the liver's easily depleted glutathione. Banannas and oranges are also a good way to go as they're both loaded in calcium, which you lose due to the alcohols diuretic (lots of pissing) effect. And of course water, as you could surely imagine, replenishes lost water. Fruit juice is also great, as it contains water, and fructose, which speeds up the body's rate of getting rid of toxins, plus all the vitamins don't hurt. If you need a headache medicine, take Ibuprofen (advil) above Acetaminophen (tylenol) as it is processed through the kidneys and not the already overworked liver.

Some myths about hangovers. Coffee does NOT help. In fact, since caffeine itself is actually a dehydrating drug, coffee can make it worse! The misconception is because caffeine can relieve headaches. Contrary to popular belief, more of the "hair of the dog that bit you" only delays the inevitable. One of the reasons hangovers are so unpleasant is the liver is still processing the toxins left over from alcohol metabolism. Drinking more alcohol can make the symptoms seem to lessen at first but will only make the situation worse once the liver breaks the alcohol down, because it will have even more toxins to deal with.

Last but not least, the "chaser plus" tablets can prevent hangovers. If they contain carbon, they can have the effect of "catching" the toxins before they pass through the body.

Everyone has his or her own hangover remedy. Ancient Romans said eat fried canaries. Modern Greeks in college fraternities say drink more "hair of the dog that bit you" -- meaning more alcohol. But although many people swear by their personal hangover cure, a review of more than 100 studies finds that, other than time, only a few things may actually help.

Some studies also have found the only other effective remedies are drinking plenty of nonalcoholic fluids to rehydrate you, vitamin B6, and prostaglandin inhibitors -- the class of anti-inflammatory drugs that include ibuprofen and aspirin, according to Wiese. These should be taken at the time you drink the alcohol for a small effect in reducing hangover severity.

    PARTY DETOX

A natural oral spray to prevent hangovers, protect the stomach and support liver function. Just spray under the tongue prior to drinking, during and after the party. Drink responsibly – Party Detox does not prevent alcohol intoxication.

    Another:

Schaefer explains: Fatty foods, if eaten before drinking alcohol, "grease" the lining of the intestines. The alcohol then takes longer to be absorbed by the body.

"Personally, I recommend eating pizza, but chorizo would work too," Schaefer says. "In the Mediterranean, one folk remedy involves swallowing a spoonful of olive oil to do the same trick."

Besides filling your stomach before you drink, eating almost any kind of food the morning after can help alleviate a hangover, says Stephanie Brooks, MS, RD, a nutrition consultant in San Francisco. Food provides electrolytes that replenish the body after dehydration. This is especially important for someone who's vomited within the last 24 hours. Brooks particularly recommends a fruit smoothie or a sports drink.

The most helpful remedies are: Sugar consumption (e.g. candy), water, and vitamin B12.

There is debate about whether a hangover might be prevented or at least mitigated. It has been speculated that imbibing even more alcohol than consumed the night before will vanquish the hangover, the so-called "hair of the dog" remedy. The most important thing to remember, however, is that there is no mechanism for making oneself sober.

    * Drink plenty of water before going to bed as well as when you wake up in the morning.

    * Eating some food while and after you are drinking will slow down the rate at which alcohol enters the blood, thereby reducing the hangover.

    * Consume vitamin C tablets, as they lead to the breakdown of alcohol content in the body.

Try to remember to have a glass of water and salt tablet before you go to bed. But if you forget, try one or two beers with two aspirin in the morning. The whole key is to rehydrate. I saw a guy who could not function go to wanting to get back to the party in twenty minutes after his paramedic buddy hooked him up to an IV(intravenous) bag to replenish his fluids.
