There are several options. You can say "the actor Robert De Niro" or "Paula, a nurse anesthetist." You can also say "restaurateur Pierre LeBlanc" or "Dr. Wilbur Wilkes, senior neurologist at City Hospital." All depends on the context.

If you're going to refer to John Doe who is a baker, you might say:
"John Doe, the baker, makes great bread."
