logarithmic function in the calculator?
hi! im confused.. can i use my calculator in dealing iwth logarithmic functions? say log2 8 = x, i can solve for x by simply changing this to exponential notation, and my x would be 3. but is there a way i can solve for x using my calculator? how?

You can't do it directly but it is possible. Say you had log4 20 = x.
You would rewrite this as 4^x = 20
Then take (common) log of both sides: x log 4 = log 20
Then on the calc do log 20 / log 4

The definition of log[base 2] is the style of the exponent once you write the argument as 2 to the potential of x (or 2^x). So: log[base 2] (2) = log[base 2] (2^a million) = a million log[base 2] (4) = log[base 2] (2^2) = 2 log[base 2] (a million/2) = log[base 2] (2^-a million) = -a million log[base 5] (0.2) = log[base 5] (a million/5) = -a million Now i'm beneficial you will decide log[base 2] of 0.25 your self.
