Erosion and Sedimentation?

What are forces that sometimes interfere with the processes of erosion and sedementation, and were could you find layers of rock fragments in loose layers?

    I'm not sure that you call a hard rock a force but that would slow down erosion. Water would prefer to find softer rock to wear down and will have to go around the harder rock. Sedimentation doesn't happen with fast flowing water. Loose layers of rock? Sounds like sedimentation caused by periodic river flooding washing down bigger fragments of rock.
