How do Pentium 4 processors compare to Core 2 Duos?

How do the speeds compare...what is a p4's clock speed compared to a 2.16 ghz core 2 duo?.... 2.5ghz, 3.0ghz, etc

For the best comparison of processors speeds check out this page on Tom's Hardware Guide:

It's an interactive comparison of CPUs based on their performance with different applications.

The Core 2 Duo is much faster than the P4.

The clock rates of the CPUs don't really matter when trying to compare speed of processors. For instance a 3ghz P4 is faster than a 2ghz P4, but a 3ghz P4 is slower than a 2ghz Core 2 Duo.

Clock rates are the rate at which instructions are run through the processor. Basically the clock rate is like the tick of clock, where for every tick of a clock the instructions in the CPU move one more step forward. If you are able to run 32 instructions through a CPU at the same time, that's going to be faster than a CPU that can only run 16 instructions through at the same time regardless of how fast the clock is running.

    Hope that helps!

They are difficult to compare, but a core 2 duo that is 2.16 would be like 3.5 ghz p4, but the core 2 duo has two separate cores. This means that when you run multiple applications or process intense games, it will run even faster...

it virtually doubles with the middle duo becuase it has "2 cores" meaning, the cpu has 2 brains to artwork with. in assessment to pentium 4, non-HT, it purely has a million center. HT (hyper-threading) helps the middle to enable courses to pass thourgh no longer simultaniously, yet components at a time. center 2 duo 1GHz is a lot lots greater powerful than pentium 4 3.0 GHz. take a check out the Intel internet site, they have charts and all the information top there.

With core 2 duo you get the dual core. This will improve speed and if using a laptop(notebook) the battery life will be longer.
