Why can't pure nitrogen be prepared from air?

It can... in fact, commercial nitrogen is usually produced by performing a separation technique called pressure swing adsorption on air. The problem is that the process is expensive, and because the kinetic diameters of the molecules are so similar, cheaper membrane methods are not very effective.

The simple answer is that there is no good way to separate the gases in air. I think, though, that if you make liquid nitrogen and then convert it back to the gas form, it's pretty pure.

Because the air doesnt contain enough nitrogen for this to be possible for profit.
Yes I know HTML wont work. I did that for general effect.
