介係詞in的用法

Question

I was at the meeting but I didn't take an active part in the discussion.(我出席了會議，但沒有積極參加討論。)這個句子裡為什麼要加個"in"呀?討論是一個地方嗎?還是在某個範圍裡?我不了解為什麼要用in the discussion?

Update:

我查過字典take part in 跟take part 都是同一個意思。而且字典裡說明take an active part(積極參加)只是一個常用搭配，所以並不包含in在裡面。

這個 in 是動詞片語 take part in 的一部分. 中文是"加進來". 跟在 in 後面的是受詞,可以是 the discussion, the play, the project...

另外一個類似的動詞片語是 participate in.

take part 單獨使用時有兩個意思: have a share 或 be involved. Take an active part是指參與的動作和角色是積極地.並未指明參與事項.要指明參與事項, 只能接 in. 原因無它,既然已經參與,必然在圈內.
