    post office. they are the only one that is financially self-sufficient. all the other ones are just government programs of a sort. the post office is the only one that makes money. the other ones just spend money allocated by the government.

    Actually, none of those are truely corporations, but are divisions of the executive branch of the federal governement. "Government corporation" could be used to describe publically funded, but seprately run entities, such as PBS. It may also describe a city government, which receives a charter to operate and govern from the state, much like a business corportation.

    By the way, the USPS web site says: "The United States Postal Service® is an independent establishment of the Executive Branch of the United States Government. It operates in a businesslike way." Thats close, but no cigar.

    The US Postal Service

    Although the US Postal Service is non-profit, it can still be considered a corporation.

    Postal service. All others are actually branches of the government.
