How do you dye lether or suede?

    There are oil based byes that soak the leather/suede for awhile and are permanent stains. The result of tanning is a blue leather and the dye is necessary for all leather/suede.

    To change the color requires a dye like below.

    If the leather is an aniline leather you use a dye which soaks through the whole leather. If it is a pigmented leather you use a special flexible pigment which coats the surface.

    Suede is fairly tricky to redye although there are products available.

    If this is for a leather suite then do not attempt to do it yourself as the results could be terrible. Special preparation is required especially for the pigment re-colouring.

    I believe they sell kits at craft stores for dyeing leather and suede.
