In Theatre: Revival?
A revival is a new play performed in the style of the original production...but what is it called when a previously done play is done in a different way or theme?

Sometimes it's called a "new production." I still think it qualifies as a "revival", though.

A revival refers to any time a play is re-produced. The style doesn't matter. The production of CABARET at Studio 54 with Alan Cumming was a completely different style than the original, for example, but it was still a revival.

It can be called a new interpretation, a new vision, a different point of view, a reexamination - but, it's still a revival.
