Down south, we eat green onions, blackeyed peas and cabbage. Some folks will eat hog jowls, too. It's suppose to bring good luck and lots of money.

We go to the cemetary where my father is buried and clean it up and add soil to any places that are sinking. I pour fireant poison around his headstone to kill any hibernating fireants before spring arrives and they begin to build those huge mounds.

We eat pimenta cheese sandwiches and drink hot chocolate while attending his grave site, too. It's just some little tradition I started many years ago in honor of my father who died in 1987.
