A minimum of 6 years of education, 2-4 years of prereqs and 4 years of pharmacy school. You will need a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree. Residency is not currently required to become a practicing pharmacy. You just need to pass two licensing exams after graduation.Source(s): pharmacy student

A degree. Look up Xavier University in New Orleans. It turns out some of the best pharmacists in the country.
