That depends upon you and the ease with which the extraction can be done. If you are too scared and request to be put out, a dentist will work with you. If not, then the preferred method is to deaden the area. If any surgery is to be involved, the teeth are cut out instead of pulled, then a surgeon will normally put you out for the procedure. There are exceptions. If you are interested in alternatives, you need to bring it up and ask now before going in for the procedure. You have the right to informed consent. You have the right to ask questions. You have the right to know. It's that simple.

From a medical point of view, not being put out is usually better than being put out. If you might fight or something during the procedure due to fear, then clearly you should be put out. Again, talk with your dentist. They are there to help. They aren't there to scare or harass you. They want the experience to be as pleasant as humanly possible.

I've had three molars extracted in the past with just local anaesthesia, no gas or anything. Just got a few injections and then was completely numb, I couldn't feel a thing - just a bit of pressure but no pain or discomfort. I think you'd only have a general anaesthesia if it was going to be a very complicated extraction, like for impacted wisdom teeth or something like that, otherwise they just do it at your normal dentist's office with local anaesthesia.

It depends. If the x-rays show that an extraction can be done with just a good yank, a good shot of procaine is all that is needed. If there is a problem, such as impaction or badly hooked roots, an oral surgeon may be needed, and the resulting procedure may well require a general anesthetic.

well ive had two teeth pulled and my wisdom teeth out. for the teeth pulling they put novacaine shots in your gums where your teeth that are going to be pulled are. then they give you nitrious oxiide. I was so sleepy from the gas they took them out and i didn't even know it and they said sit up and i was like are they out . the wisdom teeth i opted to be put under.

If you go to an oral surgeon you will feel and know nothing. Only being awoken to hear it is over.
