Where did the tradition of eating pork and krout for new year come from?

I think its a German tradition, and its supposed to make you prosperous, if this isn't true then my parents have lied to me all these years, just to get me to eat sauerkraut.LOL

I've always been told to have black-eyed peas with hog jowls for good luck and cabbage or turnip greens for Money...Well obviously it can't be true - I've had awful health problems the last few years and I'm too broke to pay attention lol ...Happy New Year!

No idea, we don't do it. Eating greens (mustard greens, spinach, collard greens, etc.) for money, and black-eyed peas for luck are always done in the area of the world I live in, though.
