Many times people take the Biblical term 'day' as literal, is the word day in the Bible more than just 24 hrs?
thanks for the 2Peter verse.
and all the good answers, it is so helpful when people try to clarify things without being mean.
I hope all of you have a nice evening.

The word day as used in this sentence, "In my grandfathers day.." can either literally be a 24 hour time period or an era.
In 2 Peter 3:8, the writer says, 'that a day with God is as a thousand years', not literally a thousand years but 'as a thousand years'.
So the word day can be an indefinite amount of time in the scriptures.

When referring to the days of creation, there is a difference of opinion on this. Christians who take the Bible very literally say that the days referred to are the same 24-hour days that we have now. Other Christians will theorize that those "days" were much longer, in an attempt to make some evolutionary thought mesh with the Biblical account.

all the days say "And the night and the morning have been the ________ day." on condition that daily has a night and a morning, that could point out literal 24 hr days... additionally, we do not have any indication the days are no longer 24hr days different than hypothesis. all and sundry believing All issues are accessible to God is conscious God is greater beneficial than able to doing each and every thing it says in each and every of the days in under 24hrs. before each and every thing the darkness existed... which we don't be attentive to ways long that replaced into, however the 1st day replaced into whilst the gentle replaced into created.... the only hypothesis i will see it demands is how long replaced into the darkness b4 the 1st day & what got here approximately or how lots went on in this term. job looks to show the Angels existed b4 the guidelines of the earth have been layed it extremely is likewise b4 the gentle replaced into referred to as into life on the 1st day. job 38:4 the place wast thou as quickly as I laid the guidelines of the earth? declare, if thou hast be attentive to-how. job 38:7 whilst the morning stars sang collectively, and all the sons of God shouted for exhilaration? job of path had no get right of entry to to the e book of Genesis, it replaced into written after his time. additionally, as yet another individual replied.... The Sabbath & resting on the seventh day, the 7 day cycle & such are a good indication the Genesis days are literally 24hr days... & the 7days of creation a literal 7 day week. For in 6days God created... & on the seventh day rested...

It depends on the verse. There is a book called You mean That's In the Bible by Satyaraja Dasa which shows all the mistranslations and thing misconstrued by king Constantine. also go to gospelofthenazirenes. for the original New Testament before Constantine misconstrued everything.

To God a day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as a day.
Time is different to God than to us. But it depends on where you're reading in the Bible. Sometimes it does refer to a single 24 hr period of time and in Prophecy it more than likely is referring to a thousand year period of time
God Bless and have a Blessed and wonderful New Year !

I'm not sure. In Genesis, when God was doing His creation work, it specifically says, "and the evening and the morning were the first day.".....however.....he didn't create the sun until the fourth day.
Also, later in the Bible (I don't know where) it says, "A day to the Lord is like a thousand years."
I really don't know.

It is in some place and not in others. You need to do more than just skim the Bible. It is a whole book and the whole of it is interconnected.

I'm sorry. Plants still can't survive too long without the Sun.
