question about taking birth control pills?

is it absolutely important to take birth control pills at exactly the same time every day down the minute? is there some leeway? for example, my normal time for taking it is 6pm, so would it be okay if i took it around 6:15pm-6:30pm because i forgot?

A few minutes is nothing to stress over. It would take much longer than that for the hormones in the pill to leave your body, particularly if you've been taking the pill for a while. If you're more than a couple hours late on a certain day, you might want to abstain from having sex that day, just in case. Better safe than sorry, right?

You should be fine because it would be hard to take a pill exactly every 24-hours. I don;t know how much leeway there is but I would imagine that you should be able to take it up to several hours late. If you are concerned about maintaining a constant exact dose you can always try the patch or nuvaring which constantly release the hormones eliminating the daily pill.

Generally the leeway is a couple hours. With some pills, such as seasonale, they recommend taking it within the same hour every day though. And yes, timing is important. I've even shifted when I take mine with daylight savings time!

The more consistant and on time you are the less likely you are to get pregnant... but 15 minutes shouldnt effect you at all... pretty much as long as you dont forget a day you are okay... if you forget a day, then you have to follow the forget a day instructions, which should be online at your birth control maker's website.

yes it would be o.k you just need to take it within the same hour every day the reason doctors stress the time you take your pill is because ever min it that goes by with out the hormone in your system is a chance for unwanted pregnancy
