This year we are being affected by an El Nino and the weather is a bit stranger that usual.

Mankind will survive global warming but, the place just isn't going to be the same

6 billion people need living space. Weather will be more and more extreme, and landmass will shrink (rising sea levels). Disease is likely to strike displaced and overcrowded peoples. Climatic change will be quite devastating not just to polar bears and them marching penguins, but to the human race. Resilient or not, folks we know, loved ones, will perish if we do not start making some changes. Perhaps it is too late.

Here is the problem I have with making inferences to the bible to explain this one (as I have already seen in response to this question), and on purely philosophical grounds. Much of the problems associated with human induced climatic change are associated with one heck of an over demanding and ever expanding human population. Heck the CO2 output from us alone could surprise you. Boosting and developing economies based on fossil fuels to support this population will only get worse and again related to the swelling population. So question is, why would a creator make us with a great reproductive potential, when the results of such only lead to the destruction of His creation. Aren't we supposed to be good stewards of the planet? At least that is what I was taught in Sunday school. And what about those that do not believe in a supreme being, shouldn't we be morally obligated to take care of the only life support system we have for everyone’s children who will inherit this mess?

As an agnostic (and there are many shades for this term, none of which suggest amorality), I say we have been tampering with the creator’s will (if he exists) since the invention of medicine, and it's time to start playing doctor to ecosystems and the biosphere that are now ailing.

There have been many times in the past few million years, for example, glacial and interglacial periods, that have been very severe regarding climatic conditions on the planet but then again there wasn't 6 billion people on the earth at that time. It's likely that if severe enough climatic conditions such as these occur in the near future, due to anthropogenically produced climate change, millions of people would be displaced due to the failure of crops and/or rising sea levels etc with a devastating impact on (in particular) developed countries economies.

Having said that individual people in general are resilient, that's why our large brain capacity allowed us to migrate out of Africa 100-200 million years ago, being able to adapt to the changing conditions we came across along the way. In other words societies may be disturbed and have to adapt but people will prevail.

    Cheers.

How sudden? The last "ice age" was 10,000 yrs ago. Absolute proof is the sudden extinction of the mammoths. The ones that were frozen, froze with daisies still in their mouths. A friend of mine lived in the Yukon in the 50's and she fed her sled dogs frozen mammoth meat sliced from a mammoth that was melting out of a glacier about a mile from her cabin!!! How come they never melted and rotted. Mankind was on earth!! There are drawing in caves in France showing hunters throwing spears at mammoths.

the book of revelations and bible prophecy state that there will be sign such as these at the end of times. it also declares that the Euphrates River will run dry. Global warming could be the cause of it running dry. Apparently, the water levels have dropped significantly in the last 50 yrs. I do not know where it stands right now... but do beleive the Bible has it right.

I think within the next century... They say we'll be headed into the next ice age within the next 100 years... The earth's supposed to be destroyed with fire and brimstone...etc...not cold... Either it's before then or a LONG ways down the road
