well there's been rumors about the mets being interested in danny haren as well as jake peavy just to name a few but it looks more and more as if the mets will be going into the season with what they have unless something happens that makes sense for the mets to do

I'm a 41 year old diehard Mets fan. There is nobody out there worth talking about. Some people say Dontrelle Willis could be in the mix. The mets and Fl. have made trades in the past and the Mets have a ton of your talent. If it does happen look for Lasting Milledge and a few more to go. Fl will want cash as well. --Jim

The only big names on the trade market being shopped around is Randy Johnson and he would likely only end up in Arizona. Carl Pavano of the Yankees is also a possibility but his health might not be worth the risk. There are still a couple of free agents left. Jeff Weaver, Joel Piniero, and possibly Steve Trachsel could be an option. But it doesn't look like they will be trading for another pitcher. With Pedro out until late July/early August they really need another star to run away with the division. However, signing El Duque and Tom Glavine should keep them towards the top of the division into August and with a HEALTHY Pedro, they are still my early pick to win the East.

So finally to answer your question, rather than trading for another pitcher, they will probably wind up filling out their rotation with some of their younger pitchers. Oliver Perez, Dave Williams, Jason Vargas, and John Maine are all very talented young pitchers, that are all very suitable four and fives.

  • Nobody. There's no rumor that the Mets are going to trade anybody. It seems like Omar plans to work with the veterans the Mets have now (El Duque, Pedro Martinez, Tom Glavine) and the young ones (John Maine, Mike Pelfrey, Oliver Perez, Phil Humber and Jason Vargas).

Well, I don't know how reliable this is but Ray Ratto of the San Francisco Chronicle, is sure that Joe Blanton will be traded.. and Minaya has shown interest in Blanton during this off-season.

Billy Beane will most likely demand Milledge or Pelfrey and another top minor leaguer.. say Carlos Gomez.

Reports this morning in the Chicago Tribune were that Javier Vazquez could be coming to the Mets for some young pitching. As a White Sox fan I would be all for that! Vazquez couldn't get out of the 6th inning many times last year.

I really dont think we need to make a trade for a big name pitcher. We have some good pitching prospects like Mike Pelfrey, Phil Humber, John Maine, Jason Vargas, and Oliver Perez (although the last three really arn't prospects). This is a cheaper solution too.

I have heard rumors around a lot of guys but the most I've heard are Joe Blanton(for Milledge and 1 or 2 others), Willis(too many), and Randy Johnson(very unlikely, but notable)

There players that might be traded is Lastings Millege or Aaron Heilman. Maybe they can trade Lastings for D-Train or Harden. That is the only rumors so far but i think that has cooled down.

Dontrelle Willis of the Florida Marlins.
