why does a sliced pear sink while a sliced apple floats in the same tub of water?

    Specific gravity...anything that floats in water has a specific gravity of less than 1gr/cm3 and anything that sinks has a specific gravity of greater than 1gr/cm3.

    Well you have to remember that a pear and an apple are two different fruits and have two different densities.whether or not the size of the fruit is the same or not, wont have an effect on its buoyancy.

    Apples are more spongy. Pears are more dense and juicy so they sink.
