How Do I get rid of a virus if I cannot put new Anti-Virus Protection on my computer?

My anti-virus is outdated and when I try to download another the apparent virus deletes it reboot, refills my recycle bin after I delete them and reinstalls pictures and e-mails when I delete them. What can I do?

If you can figure out the name of the virus you can go to Symantec and hopefully find a manual removal procedure or tool.

What I ended up doing when something like this happened to me is taking the hard drive out, putting it in another PC with up to date antiviurs as a secondary drive and doing a full scan.

If this doesn't work, try to find out the name of the virus and ask again.

Good Luck and Happy New Year!

before you go anyfurther go to houscall.trendmicro.com and run the online scan. allow it to clean what it can and delete what is uncleanable.

now once you are clean. disconnect from the internet and your LAN

now uninstall your old antivirus suite (if changing to a new vendor such as changing from mcafee to norton for example).

    now restart the computer

and install the new scanner suite.

once installed restart your computer do a scan then shut down after cleaning anything it finds.

now reactivate or connect the LAn or internet connection and update the definitions file for the scanner. once updated repeat the scan making sure to scan and clean your entire computer system.

remeber AVG from reports i've heard can cause more problems than it solves.

I use trend pc-cillin on my system and in the 6 months i've been using it i've never had a problem and the suite is free for a one month trial. see www.trendmicro.com for more details.

good luck and happy new year

First log in to your computer through safe mode. If you know what is the name of the virus, then it's better to download an anti virus that's is specific to that virus, instead of downloading an entire anti-virus.

For example, if the name of the virus is w32.jeefo, then download an anti-virus that removes only w32.jeefo. This will make your work faster.

If you don't know the name of the virus, then download a new anti-virus instead of updating existing one. Try downloading one that runs from dos, so that you can bypass your virus intervention...

I may be misunderstanding this. But what I understand here--you are trying run another antivirus program over the old one. First remove the old, then put new in and run in soft mode several scans. Be sure everything is up to date. If you run two antiviruses programs (even if one is out dated it is still there) they don't work properly...and will block each other.

most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.

i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.

besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.

download firefox for free, Just have a try:

you must use cmd. (short for Command prompt) Go to start--> run--> type cmd--> type cd *whichever folder the virus is in* (replace with directory virus is in e.g. C:\Windows)--> del *whichever file it is* and you're done. Warning! Do not delete the wrong file! Only delete what you need to delete!

You can down load a free antivirus program and scan the computer. I think that you can down load AVG free edition from the following link that deals with different antivirus softwares. http://tinyurl.com/ymctqq You can visit the following site , if you want a more effective antivirus . You have to pay for it!

If you have a USB storage device, you can use ClamWin Portable, a free, open-source anti-virus that you can use from a USB storage device. I don't know how reliable ClamWin is though.

Save all of your files you absolutely have to keep and reformat your hard drive. Reformatting sounds hard, but its really not. That will get rid of your problem.
