All dogs shed; even your terriers or short coated breeds shed. It's a natural and normal for this to occur. The only breeds that shed very little are your hairless breeds, but there are other care issues that come with that (sunblock, acne etc).

Allergies are a result of the dogs dander and not the hair- though the hair does come into play as an irritant. Thus, the degree to which an individual is allergic is a matter of whether that individual is allergic to the animals dander.

  • There are quite a few breeds that don't shed; yorkshire terrier is one I'm sure of. I have a chihuahua and she sheds a LOT. My step-father has a german shorthair and she sheds an awful lot, too. Also, there are no hypoallergenic dogs (or cats). Allergies are caused by the dander (flaked off skin) and not hair. However, dogs that shed a lot tend to get dander in the air more easily and a lot more than non-shedding dogs.

All dogs shed to some extent, some are just minimal shedders so it goes pretty much un-noticed.

Minimal shedding dogs require regualr upkeep at the groomers and also by the owners.

    Some minimal shedders:

Poodles, Pudel Pointers, Irish Water Spaniels, Portugese Water Dogs, Yorkies, Shih Tzu's, Lahsa Apso's, Wheaton Terriers

All dogs shed - sorry, but that's the way it is with dogs...

All dogs are friendly, that is, if that's the way you raise them to be. Dogs are a reflection of their owner so it's up to YOU to train them properly. Dogs (like children) aren't maintenance free so make sure you can handle the commitment before you adopt a new "family member"!

I have the PERFECT kind of dog for you! My dog is a miniature schnauzer, he is the sweetest thing and so easly trained AND he doesn't shed! Not only that but he is great around kids! they come in differnt colors too. Black (that is what mine is), White, Silver (gray), and Salt and Pepper (Black and White). He isn't curly, if you leave their ears normal and not cropped they are even cuter! They also have such personality!

But if you don't want a small dog there are Giant Schnauzers, Standard Schnauzers, Miniature Schnauzers, and Toy Miniature Schnauzers!

    I hoped I helped!

I have a Chihuahua and had a Schnauzer in the past, and both of 'em shed.

Pretty much a poodle is your only bet. Any other dog will shed, it's just part of having a furry coat.

I have a Bichonpoo (1/2 Bichon Frise 1/2 Poodle) she doesn't shed. Her hair is wavy not curly. She is very mellow but friendly, loves everyone and all other animals. She is a real sweetheart. And she is so cute. See her photo at left and on my 360.
