Why is religion considered mythology?
I had the opportunity to take a Philosophy course and the professor and the book addressed religion as mythology. I was surprised at the beginning, but I got to recognize that it makes sense. The Greeks worshiped Zeus. The Romans worshiped Apollo. We now know that Zeus and Apollo are part of the world's mythology. Religion today is like religion in the past. So, what do the experts (philosophers, historians, archeologists) know about religion that we the normal people do not know? Scientists use evidence to prove their theses, so if they say religion today is mythology, what evidence do they have to prove that? Do they know Jesus existed? What do they know about how Christianity started? etc.
What I want to know is if scientists have historical facts and evidence that we the normal people don't know.
Religion is a state that provides comfort to the human mind. So everything is an illusion? I guess so.
Do you think religion today is modern mythology?
So who follows the TRUE religion? Christians, muslims, Jews... who?
All of them have killed and been killed for the Only True God
That's what religion does, comfort you, does it not?
I was trying to be objective, if you know what that means...
People like mystery and excitement. Religion is the source of that.
I believe in God the universal God- Nature, Earth, wind, rain, Sun, Moon...
I considered myself a Secular Humanist
Secular means non-religious, not without god.
Humanist means a person who seeks the common good for humankind
I share your thoughts of a living God, but to me, this God should be a god that unifies, not that divides.
I notice how many Christian denominations exist today - they are hundreds.
Why would God want to be divided into many different groups?
they fight one another, what for? They worship the same god, what is wrong? Because they have different EARTHLY dogmas on how to lead their churches?
The problem with 'The Only True God'
Many wars have been fought because of the Only True God. Every single monotheistic religion claims that their god is the True God. How do you explain this?
I'm sorry to say this, but the world will never change until humans accept that this 'Only True God' doesn't exist. Our God should be universal, don't you think? And this god should be accessible to us. This 'god' might be the reasoning nature gave us. Our brain that is more advanced than the brain of other creatures on earth.
Have a happy 2007!

We know them today but they use pseudonyms…
Since different languages can call the same person by different names, some of the Greek and Roman Gods are one in the same.
Zeus however is not the God of creation. The Greek creation myth has Gaia as the mother goddess, and Uranus as the father god.
Zeus was Satan...
We can find original text written in Greek, Latin as well as Hebrew. The Greek alphabet was assigned numerical values (The X gives the Z sound of Xylophone) X (=Chi) 600; Xi (shaped like a curled capital E) 60 and S (Sigma) 6. (Although Sigma is no longer used, it was) Thus 600, 60 and 6 spells XES, the Greek spelling for Zeus. In the KJV translation - where the name of the prophet Elisha (meaning 'My God is Saviour') has been retained in the paganised form 'Eliseus' (My god is Zeus). In similar fashion, the Name of the Hebrew Messiah YAHU'SHUAH (meaning 'YAHU is Saviour') has been paganised to read 'JeZeus', ('God is Zeus') which later became 'Jesus' in the English language (pronounced 'Jezus').
600 (X), 60 (Xi,=E), 6 (S) the number of his name, clearly spells XES the original Greek spelling for ZEUS.
Venus… In the Bible – She was referred to as the Queen of Heaven…
Jeremiah 44:17 (NIV) "We will certainly do everything we said we would: We will burn incense to the Queen of Heaven and will pour out drink offerings to her just as we and our fathers, our kings and our officials did in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. At that time we had plenty of food and were well off and suffered no harm." …And there are those who claim that it's referring to Venus, Asherah, Ashtoreth, Ishtar, or Isis. They are all the same person. Venus is equivalent to the Egyptian Goddess Isis, the Phoenician Astarte and the Babylonian Ishtar.
Was Satan really Zeus aka Adam and was Venus really Eve aka Isis?
Jeremiah 1- Prophecy Part 3… Heads of “Zeus/Nike” abound on buildings in D.C. Isis is in grid layouts and in bas-relief sculptures of Greek and Roman gods and goddesses from one end of town to the other. The ancient story unfolds of Satan’s first child (first-born Cain) and his first Great Eagle Goddess, who was “Eve” (Isis). This Isis “Queen of Egypt” aka Venus is the worshipped Madonna with Child (Isis and Osiris) for today’s German/Roman Catholics and others.
So as you see from the statement above, Satan’s first child is Cain, which means Satan is Adam who was Zeus. And Eve (Venus) was Isis the Madonna and Child.
But to clarify a misnomer about Venus
There are so many different versions of these stories handed down.
There is one who says Zeus was married to Dione and had a daughter Aphrodite.
There is one that says Venus is Aphrodite. Wrong!!!!!
There is one that says Venus is the daughter of Uranus and Gaia. She is known as the Daughter of Heaven and Sea (Creation)
So if Venus is Uranus' daughter and Aphrodite is Zeus’ daughter, they cannot be one in the same!!!!
In addition the planet Venus was named after her. In astrology she rules Libra.
And I’m sure she would be insulted at being called Aphrodite!
Yes, Venus was around long before Mary!!!
And I think it’s about high time she was forgiven for eating that apple!
If you asked me Satan aka Adam lied and it was he who was the evil one.

If you study science you realize it's a myth too.
You have 100 people with a massive infection. You adminsiter Penicillin. You have a 2 in 100 chances that they will die from alergies to the drug. a 1 in 100 chance that drug will be eaten up by pennicilanese bactrium and a 40 in 100 chance it will do nothing at all.
Science is a dice throw.
Now, 60 years ago, Penicillin cured almost anything, but today, it cures very little because the body has gotten used to it.
In another 100 years, theoetically there will be NOTHING to give to someone with a tooth abscese, for Pen P will NO LONGER WORK on almost everyone.
To be mythology you have to PROVE it wrong and NO ONE can prove RELIGION wrong. No one.
There is NO SCIENTIFIC PROOF it is a fabrication.
It is merely an OPINION.
Science is a religion. Want proof

Does that sound like an Apocalpytic!

Psalm 119:99 "I have more insight than all my teachers,
for I meditate on your statutes."
Myths don't make people give up their life for a cause - only facts do that.
Edit: I studied mythology in Greece as it was a subject in primary school and I know the Greek myths. I was also an alter boy and I know religion does not work. A relationship with God however does work and it took me half my life to work that out. True religion as people call it is having a friendship with God where it is not fear based and you can even have an argument with God. It is not about a moral lesson like the flight of Icarus it is about a reality that you can know Him personally and He can be an integral part of your life. I hope you can find what I have because when you do you would give up anything for it.

How are you defining the word mythology? Mythology means " a branch of knowledge that deals with myth". So what is a myth? It is a sacred story that has some importance to the society the tells it. It could be moral or explain how something came into being.
Isn't that what most religions do? They either proscribe morals or explain how something (people, the world, god/ the gods) came into being. So I'd say the religion could be correctly called mythology.

Definition: The word mythology (Greek: μυθολογία, from μυθος mythos, a story or legend, and λογος logos, an account or speech) literally means the retelling of myths – stories that a particular culture believes to be true and that often use supernatural events or characters to explain the nature of the universe and humanity.
What about modern religion fails to meet this definition?
This is different from science in that science attempts (not always successfully) to explain the universe and humanity with natural events, not supernatural events.Source(s): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mythology

This mythical Jesus totally changed my life.
I was a liar. Now I don't lie any more.
I was a thief. Now I am an honest man.
I was hateful. I hate no man.
I was a blasphemer. Now I am a worshiper.
I had no hope. Now I have a confident expectation of good.
I was fearful. I have no fear.
I was cruel. Now I am kind.
I was a drunkard. I drink no more.
I was a smoker. I smoke no more.
I was a drug abuser. I don't use drugs anymore.
I was anxious. I have continual peace.
I was sexually abusive. I live a chaste life.
I was spiritually blind. Now I understand.
I was a fool. He has taught me wisdom.
I was selfish. Now I am generous.
It started in a moment, when I least expected it, when I believed in the name of Jesus. I was born again, when I didn't even know such a thing was possible.
He is the Son of God. He is risen from the dead. I know, experientially, He has saved me, and will save me forever.

1) The burden of proof is on the believer.
2) Yes, it is modern day mythology.

When the modern faiths no longer have anyone to speak up for them. As long as their are Christians around, their will be people who insist that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
