My friend's computer has the trojan horse virus Lop.as, how do we get rid of it?

Her computer has been loaded with viruses and she has the avg, spybot and ad-aware. We went in and deleted the temporary files and put it in safe mode and ran the avg. It came up clean and then we did the systems restore. She got online and the avg popped up and said virus alert Lop.as C/Document&Settings/owner/local setting/temporary files, we tried to heal it and it couldn't be healed so we put it in the virus vault. We started the whole thing all over again and came up clean. Looked in the virus vault and it showed it once and twice as copies. HELP! Is there any way to go in and individually take out the file? I don't know what has happened now that I talked her through the system restore since this last scan.

Haha, what I tell you might sound simple but it might actually work. Apparently its in your temporary internet files. Go to http://www.ccleaner.com and get it. Install it. Boot up into safe mode again and run CCleaner. It should just find a bunch of obsolete files and registry entries. Clean em all. Run a AVG, Spybot, and Ad-aware scan after you are done with CCleaner. Make sure you do those still in safe mode. Then reboot the computer and start it up normally. You should be free of Lop.as .

I agree with the last post, some of those Trojan horses are so well hidden, that sometimes it is nearly impossible to locate and remove. The only option that will be a sure fire way to fix the problem is to completely reformat your c drive and do a complete reinstall. Sorry about that, just remember to backup and critical files before your reformatting, otherwise they will be lost forever. If you want a great program to do the reinstall EZReload, is a great one and pretty inexpensive. Another good program to have on your system is Norton's go back. That way you can turn back the clock on your computer (for example the previous day), and it will restore your system back to the way it was (on the previous day). Hope this helps. Good luck.

Before running your av in safe mode, turn off the system restore. Then boot up in safe mode and run the av. Once you log back in regular mode, turn the system restore back on.

You can down load a free antivirus program and scan the computer. I think that you can down load AVG free edition from the following link that deals with different antivirus softwares. http://tinyurl.com/ymctqq

You can also visit the following link and select a more effective antivirus software. You have to pay for it!

most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.

i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.

besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.
