You will find the story of King David told in the books of 1 and 2 Samuel. He was the second king of Israel, and was started a dynasty that would rule over Judah (the northern half of Israel) for the next 500 years.

His most "famous" story is how as a teenager he killed an enemy warrior of "giant size" named Goliath. He is also "infamous" for having an affair while the king and attempting to cover it up by have the woman's husband killed on a "suicide mission" with David's army.

He is also credited with writing (and having written) most of the song lyrics contained in the Bible book called Psalms, and the many of the wise says in the book of Proverbs.

Jesus Christ was a direct decedent of King David through both his mother (see Luke 3) and his step-father (see Matthew 1).

David began as a shepherd boy, was called by God. Started doing his own thing. David was chased and hunted by King Saul. David backstabbed his friend, sent him into a war zone, abused his power as king, slept with his friend's wife Bathesheba and produced kids that killed one another. One son raped his 1/2 sister.David later repented and wrote most of the Psalms. He Is one of the progenitors in the lineage of Jesus. Matthew 1. The story of David proves a good thing can happen, even if you come from a long line of reprobates and nutcases. God kept His word and is ever faithful even to those who don't deserve it.

King David was the third king of Israel and, prophetically, the father of the coming Messiah. He collected the materials that Solomon would use to build the Temple.

    • David was the SECOND king of Israel - read the Word.

David was King of Israel, and united the tribes. He built Jerusalem into a prosperous city, and he defeated the enemies of Israel. He wrote (or so it is said) the Psalms of the Holy Scriptures, and tho he was far from a perfect man, he had great love for G-d.

He slew the "giant" Goliath with a sling and a stone. He then went on to become King of Isreal. As King, already with wives and concubines galore, he was bored one night, went up on the palace roof, and became a peeping tom, spying on a woman he saw naked (she was bathing)...he decided he must have her, so he found out who she was. Turns out she was married, and her husband was a soldier. So he called for her husband, and sent him off to an impossible-to-win battle, and sure enough he was killed. Then he took the now-widow to be (yet another) of his wives.

Nice role models in the bible, huh? :(

David was a largely mythologized king of the Israelites. Similar to King Arthur, there are a lot of legendary stories about him the Hebrews created, but much of what is written about him in the OT has been heavily redacted.

    • David is NOT a myth ..........so very sad someone would not know the Truth of the Old Testament -
shows a GREAT LACK of Bible knowledge.  Jesus'
earthly birth was of the linage of David.  Read the "begots" in Matthew.  The Word is unalterable Truth from God Himself.

He was the second Israelite King, he wrote many of the Psalms and he was promised to be the ancestor of the messiah. He defeated the Philistines and captured Jerusalem and made it the capitol. He made many mistakes, but he had true faith and repented of his sins and thus was very close to Jehovah, the God of Israel.

    • Saul was the first king of Israel,  and David was the second king of Israel.   Read the Word - First and Second Samuel,  and in the Kings books.  David wrote many of the Psalms.   Study the Bible - Old and New Testaments -  they will lead you to God, and to His Son Jesus.   Jesus is the Way to God.

King David was the king of Isrieal. He was a great ruler. He lead great battels and built a great cathedral.

Source(s): I'm unfortunetley a religiion know it all.
    • David NEVER built a cathedral or a temple.  God had him gather all the material for a temple and God led his son, Solomon,  to build the temple.  it's in the Word.  Read I Kings in the Old Testament.
