While pregnant, Are X rays safe?
- PinkLv 51 decade agoFavorite Answer
First it all depends on what the exam is and how many pictures were taken. Some exams require more x-rays than others. It depends on the type of exam, how many times you have had the exam while pregnant. It also depends on which trimester the pregnancy is in. The first trimester is the most susceptible to the fetus. Lead aprons are used to protect the person or fetus from radiation, however lead aprons are not designed to stop the primary beam. As you can see there are many variables. The only accurate method is to have a physicist calculate the dose.Source(s): radiology professor

Radiation from X Ray machines during pregnancy can be a problem. If this is in concern to someone you know and they are having one done make sure this person tells the doctor or person doing the X Ray that they are pregnant.
They may be able to do an alternative treatment such as an ultrasound or MRI scan.

Not safe no, the risk involved with having an x-ray during your pregnancy has to do with how the baby will tollerate the radiation. Some doctors will still give you an x-ray though if they feel the risk of not having one is greater then the slight chance it'll harm the baby. I included a link to a pamplet from the FDA on X-Rays Pregnancy & You. Have a read.

No. Even dentists will give you a lead apron if they have to do an Xray.
It might be necessary to x-ray a broken arm or leg but most will not do x-rays on a pregnant woman. And they will do a lead apron on the stomach area.

it depends on where your getting x rayed..usually if you tell the doctor your pregnant, they'll cover up your belly with several x ray blankets..i dont think that x rays are good for the baby, just sonograms..but ask your doctor first..

NO! And if a doctor or dentist tells you that you need an x-ray, and there's the remotest possibility you are pregnant TELL them!

just tell the x-ray tech. Some are safe and your uterus can be blocked, some of course are not. They know!

No, however, you are only supposed to have x rays only if necessary. otherwise hold off on them until after the birth

No, but my dentist said if my tooth feels worse, they can concentrate on x-raying just that tooth
