Most people assume there were three, but the bible does not say how many. Matthew chapter2vs1 says "Now when Jesus was born in Bethleham of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem.

Matt. 2:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod, the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem

Matt 2:11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary, his mother, and fell down, and woshipped him; and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts: gold , and frankincense, and myrrh.

So, you see it dosen't specify how many came, we only assume it was three because of the three gifts that were given.

There is no number of wise men specified.

The assumption that there are three comes from the fact that they presented the Christ Child with three gifts - gold, frankincense and myrrh.

Everybody says 3, but actually the bible doesn't give a number.

Unknown. There were three gifts given to the Christchild....but the number of actual Magi is strictly conjecture.

Matthew doesn't say. It only reports the three gifts: Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh.

It doesn't say. It must have been a good-sized group if they troubled Herod by their arrival.
