    Lucien Laurent- He was making only his third appearance for his country (France) when he struck the opening goal in the first game of the inaugural World Cup tournament in Uruguay on 13 July 1930.

    The midfielder struck with a 19th-minute volley which set France on their way to a 4-1 victory over Mexico.
