There is a difference between re-modelling a house and re-decorating it.
To re-model on a tight budget can be done but it is tricky. Try to complete as much work as possible by yourselves. Things like re-wiring aren't that hard to master and doing it yourself costs a hell of a lot less than getting a qualified electrician in to do the work for you. The same of course goes for plumbing and tiling etc. The materials cost varied amounts depending on where you get them from. Some places allow you to purchase at cost price if you are buying a lot of material from them. Others have a use or return policy. It is best to shop around well before hand to get the best deal.
Set yourself a target for each room and stick to it. If you can't afford real laminate flooring in the kitchen for example, choose an off cut of lino that looks like laminate. Try to find a reclomation place in your area. With a bit of elbow grease you can pick up some real bargains second hand and give them a clean to bring them back to their former glory.
If you are just talking about decorating your home, make your own curtains and furniture covers. It is much cheaper this way and have a much wider selection of colours and fabrics. Don't buy a new sofa unless your old one is broken. Just add a large throw and some scatter cushions to enhance colour and inject some warmth. Stick to neutral colours on the walls but add lots of accessories like picture frames or shelving, which can be purchased at boot fairs and cost very little. Add coloured bulbs to your lighting to create different moods.
You don't have to purchase an entire kitchen, just replace or paint the doors and add new handles. Apply a coat of fresh paint to walls and tiles and you will have a brand new kitchen on a very cheap budget. Again, add small personal touches like plants or a bowl of fruit and you have a beautiful elegant kitchen.
For the bedroom, again I would make my own covers and curtains. They will match and will cost a fraction of the price.
Make sure you wash the windows and polish the brass.
If you can't afford to paint in every room, just give the skirting board, walls and ceiling a wash down with some sugarsoap. You will be amazed at how much it will brighten the room.
Don't forget, when you give your house a spruce up, don't forget the front. Make sure your front door is clean and painted and add a couple of pot plants to add that welcome feel. Try to hide bins behind a bush or a wiker fence panel and hey presto. you have a great house both inside and out.
I hope these tips have helped and good luck!

I redid my kitchen final 12 months. We painted the gruesome 70's cabinets a creamy white and distessed them. Then I positioned new knobs on the doors. We positioned a clean floor down (vinyl tiles), have been given a clean sink and faucet, new counter acceptable, positioned wainscoting on the partitions under each and all of the cabinets and that i think of it fairly is all. I did this involved by under $800. I have been given the sink, faucet, & cabinet hardware from ebay and stored a fortune. sturdy success. keep around. you're able to do it for a lot under $10G. Kelli

Paint works wonders. Paint each room inside, a different color.
That is what we did. Looks great.
